Iran's newly appointed Defence Minister, Mehrdad Akhlaqi Ketabchi, has issued a strong warning to US President Donald Trump, signalling that Tehran is prepared to respond forcefully to any fresh military aggression against the country.

"Trump should be thinking about getting his people out of the region safely," Ketabchi said on Sunday.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with Trump recently discussing the possibility of striking a heavily fortified Iranian nuclear site. The latest developments have raised concerns about a renewed escalation in the conflict.

Iran Signals Strong Response To US Military Action

Addressing lawmakers after receiving parliamentary approval for the defence portfolio, Akhlaqi pledged to strengthen Iran's defence capabilities and revive its military-industrial sector. He also stressed the importance of advancing defence technology and expanding cooperation with private companies.

His remarks come as Washington weighs its options regarding Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Trump has suggested that the United States could target the strategically important Pickaxe Mountain facility, which is believed to be associated with Iran's nuclear programme.

The US president has discussed the potential use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, widely known as the "Mother of All Bombs". Although the weapon is not nuclear, its enormous explosive power makes it a significant part of the military calculations surrounding a possible strike.

Tehran Warns Against Further Escalation

Iran has repeatedly warned that any new attack on its territory would trigger retaliation. Akhlaqi's statements reinforce Tehran’s position that it will not remain passive if its military or strategic infrastructure comes under attack.

The new defence minister is also expected to focus on strengthening Iran's aerospace and missile capabilities, areas in which he has extensive experience.

The developments come against the backdrop of the conflict that began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February. The confrontation has intensified concerns over regional security, the future of Iran's nuclear programme and the possibility of further military action.
