A day after a suicide bomb attack at a mosque and subsequent gun battle in Pakistan’s restive northwest killed at least 31 people, Islamabad has carried out airstrikes in neighbouring Afghanistan on Monday morning. According to local media reports, Pakistani fighter jets conducted airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan early Monday morning. As per reports, at around 3.30 am, low-flying aircraft allegedly targeted the Patang area of Nurgal district in Kunar province.
3 killed in attack
Najibullah Hanif, head of Information and Culture in Kunar, confirmed that the Pakistani military regime carried out an airstrike this morning around 3 a.m. in a location in the Narang district of Kunar province, resulting in three deaths and several others wounded, reported Tolo News.
According to accounts circulating among residents and monitoring outlets, the strikes occurred in the middle of the night, catching families by surprise. Similar reports also mention activity in Barmal district of Paktika province around the same time. Details remain limited, and independent verification is still pending.
It is too early to determine the full extent of any casualties or damage. Local reports have not yet provided confirmed numbers of dead or injured, nor clear assessments of property destruction.
Tensions at border region
The incident has heightened tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Reports of heavy gunfire between Afghan Taliban forces and Pakistani troops along sections of the Durand Line emerged later in the morning, particularly near areas bordering Paktia province and Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
