Low fertility has emerged as a global issue. Several countries have started initiatives to boost population growth rates. In the vein of this, Singapore, which is also facing low fertility rates, introduced a new dating app for its government workers. The FirstDate app aims to encourage government employees to mingle and have more children.

The pilot project is strictly available only to government employees. Users from the government sector can use this app after signing up in the application. The users need to fill out a series of questions about their interests and values, as the algorithm uses the data to match the singles, one date at a time, as other dating apps do.

Government Employees Aged 21 To 25 Can Use The App

According to media reports, the dating app is available only to people aged 21 to 35. The app's Nobel-winning algorithm offers users a way to escape "swipe fatigue". Users can build a "thoughtful connection", the app claims.

FirstDate started with a question among a group of GovTech officers: does having more potential matches necessarily make it easier to find a suitable match?

"The team shared an interest in exploring some of the challenges people can face when meeting someone new. They wondered whether a different approach that places greater emphasis on compatibility through values and preferences, and offers fewer matches at a time, could give users more space to consider each introduction and decide whether they would like to take the next step. They explored the idea at GovTech Singapore's annual {build} hackathon, where officers develop and test new ideas," the site (https://firstdate.sandbox.gov.sg/) read.

That idea became FirstDate, a ground-up pilot initiative currently being tested across the Public Service.

"Our questionnaire covers users' interests, habits, values and preferences to curate matches based on compatibility. Once completed, leave the matching to us," it added.

Get to know date before match: Every cycle, user will receive one match with a compatibility score, what they are like, and a personal note. So user's first hello feels familiar.

The choice is yours: Once matched, you have 3 days to say yes. Mutual acceptance unlocks your contact details.

No spark? No worries: The app says the user will get a new match every cycle if the first dates does not go well.
