In a bizarre incident, US President Donald Trump's announcement outlining America's future in artificial intelligence drew attention online for an unexpected reason- a spelling mistake in the official material accompanying the announcement. Interestingly, several top CEOs of American tech giants, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and other officials, signed the document, but none appeared to highlight the blunder.

"Unites States President"

The document referred to Trump as the "Unites States President" instead of the correct phrase, "United States President." The typo quickly stood out as the announcement focused on the United States’ ambitions in the rapidly developing field of artificial intelligence.

Some posts described the typo as an ironic distraction from an announcement dealing with technological advancement and the future of AI.

Spelling mistakes in official communications are not unusual, particularly in lengthy documents and fast-moving announcements. However, errors involving the name of a country or the official title of a head of state tend to attract disproportionate attention because they are immediately recognisable.

Big embarrassment for Trump

The episode comes as governments around the world are increasingly focused on artificial intelligence, including questions surrounding technological leadership, economic competitiveness, national security and the safety of advanced AI systems.

The wording may be corrected in subsequent versions of the document, but the original screenshot has already circulated widely online. What began as a formal announcement about America’s AI future therefore became, at least temporarily, a viral conversation about a two-letter typo: "Unites" instead of "United."

"Is AI/SI responsible for this spelling error?" asked one X user. "Typo in the name of our country in the AI safety accord doc. Seems to me not enough super intelligence was used," another user wrote.

"Not a single AI leader noticed this spelling error. People are clowning all of them together for being the TOP AI leaders," another user added.
