In his first reaction to the Republican defeat in the midterm elections, United States President Donald Trump said the GOP lost because he was not on the ballot and if that were not the case, the result would be a landslide.

"I wasn’t on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!" Trump said in a Truth Social post. The Republicans held 53 seats in the Senate while the rival Democrats had 45. The remaining two independents caucused with Democrats.

Democrats had needed 4 seats more to secure a Senate majority, which the party clinched early. Out of a total 35 Senate seats that went to the polls, Democrats have won 11 seats, flipping four seats - North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Ohio.

The midterms have dashed all hopes for the Trump-led party in the House, Senate and States. In states, Democrats flipped 4 Governors. Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms defeated Republican Rick Jackson in Georgia, Democrat Rob Sand defeated Republican Zach Lahn in Iowa, Democrat Amy Acton defeated Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio, and Gina Hinojosa defeated Republican incumbent Greg Abbott in Texas.

Georgia and Texas wins are huge as they were held by the Republican Party for over two and three decades respectively.

In the House of Representatives, Democrats flipped 6 Republican seats - Pennsylvania's 7th district, 8th district, 10th district, New Jersey's 7th district, North Carolina's 11th district and Kentucky's 6th district.

The US President also said that he would respect the outcome as voters decide the balance of power in Congress. "We'll work with the Democrats, and we'll, you know, look forward to working with them. We'll probably work something out," he said.
