US-Iran War: Amid the renewed tensions between the US and Iran, videos of a mysterious object hovering over the skies of the Iranian capital, Tehran, have grabbed eyeballs on social media platforms. The videos, reportedly captured on September 20, showed multi-colour lights in the sky, with some users claiming that the incident took place near the Azadegan Expressway in Tehran.

The videos quickly went viral on social media platforms, with users speculating whether it was an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO), a military drone or something else hovering in the sky. Many users are sharing the videos with their speculations.

However, the Iranian authorities have not issued an official statement on the sightings, and it is not yet confirmed what it was.

Another user shared a video, purportedly showing the lights in full. He claimed that they were balloons tied to strings of lights. However, the veracity of the video can not be independently verified.

The videos also reminded people of similar aerial sightings in Iran back in 1976. Coincidentally, that incident took place on September 19, 1976. Iranian authorities also reported the aerial sightings, and fighter jets were also scrambled to investigate. However, nothing suspicious was found at that time.

The videos went viral a day after the US issued a warning for its citizens in Iran, asking them to immediately leave the Middle Eastern nation. The US Mission urged Americans currently in the region to exercise heightened vigilance and closely monitor developments affecting airports, airlines and border crossings.

Iranian authorities also warned the US that they would use new weapons and target locations not previously attacked if the United States launched a new offensive against the country. "If a new aggression occurs, we will certainly change the weaponry and the geography of the war," Iran's Revolutionary Guards spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said, as quoted by Fars news agency.

US-Iran War:

The Iran-US conflict began on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, targeting its nuclear, missile, military and government infrastructure. One of the strikes also killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel, US bases in Gulf nations.

One of the biggest flashpoints became the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world's oil and LNG normally passes. After weeks of fighting, the two sides reached a US-Iran memorandum in June, temporarily reducing the intensity of the conflict, but the arrangement later broke down and formally expired in August.

Since then, the confrontation has increasingly centred on Hormuz, sanctions, shipping and economic pressure, with both sides continuing to threaten or carry out military action. The US has maintained pressure on Iranian ports and shipping, while Iran has restricted traffic through Hormuz and retaliated against US and its allies.
