In a love behind-bars scenario, an old British prison is offering a unique dining experience for couples on Valentine's Day. Couples can dine in this ancient English jail for USD 215 (Rs 17,000), the New York Post reported. The Oxford Jail was once an active tower, thousand years ago, however, on February 14 this year it will be an abode for prison-bound passion and will serve a menu that will have "better than the average prison food".
The guests will have an option to even dine in the prison cells of criminals accused of murders like Mary Blandy or Anne Greene. In a special, they can also treat themselves to "the creepy, 900-year-old Normal crypt" for USD 230 (Rs 19,000).
"Dine in style at Oxford Castle and Prison this Valentine's Day! Choose from 6 unique locations in our historic building, from authentic Georgian prison cells to the wood and barred environs of Debtors Tower, or for a truly spectacular evening, our 900-year-old Norman crypt," Oxford Castle and Prison wrote on their website.
The three-course fine dining experience will take place around a table lit with candelabras and flowers, located within the cellblock's closed areas.
The appetizer will have tomato tartare accompanied by charcoal crackers and an aged parmesan black garlic emulsion. The main course will contain three options: braised beef blade, short rib pierogi, or miso-braised cabbage. And the couples can clear their palate with a bottle of prosecco.
A twice-baked cheese souffle or a barbecued leek terrine with a white wine and watercress sauce are also available as vegetarian options. The dessert will be a white chocolate mousse custard topped with raspberries and a sponge cake made with pistachios.
The Oxford Castle and Prison was built as a medical fort in 1073 and turned into a prison in 1785 and was operational until 1996.
