Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Washington DC on Thursday on an official visit to the United States, at the invitation of US President Donald Trump. However, his visit has become a subject of mockery on social media rather than getting attention over real cause.
The prime minister will participate in the Board of Peace session in Washington today. He is also expected to hold meetings with senior US officials during the visit.
What led to online backlash
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, posted a statement on X, which contain multiple typographical errors. The ministry has written “Unites” instead of United and Americas, instead of America. The correct spelling of USA is the United States of America.

This prompted widespread reaction on social media, where users pointed out the typo and said, “Thoda zyada curtain raise ho gaya bro. Unites”. Another user also pointed out the visit might be a new begging tactics of Islamabad.
“Now, Sharif is going to America with a begging bowl in hand,” wrote a user on X.
Humiliation become a new normal for Shehbaz Sharif
This was not the first time the Pakistan Prime Minister has faced such humiliation online. Earlier last year, Sharif faced backlash after a screenshot circulated alleging he had written “I condom the attack” instead of “I condemn” while responding to Israel’s reported airstrikes on Iran.
In another embarrassment for Pakistan Prime Minister, last year, his fake social media post on the history of Kashmir was fact-checked on Twitter. Sharif dubbed October 27 as a 'Black Day' against what Pakistan claims as the alleged invasion by the Indian army of Kashmir in 1947. When The Daily Jagran investigated the post, it found the message was picked from artificial intelligence (AI).
In his message, Prime Minister Sharif said India continues to deny the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination. He reaffirmed that the Kashmiri people are not alone in their struggle, as 240 million Pakistanis stand firmly and resolutely beside them in their pursuit of self-determination.
“Every year, the 27th of October marks the darkest day in the history of Kashmir. It was on this day, seventy-eight years ago, that the Indian Occupation Forces landed in Srinagar and annexed it - a tragic chapter in human history that continues to this day. Ever since that fateful day, India continues to deny the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination, as enshrined in numerous resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,” read Sharif’s “fake” social media post.
