PM Modi Jordan visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Amman on Monday, on a two-day visit to Jordan, the first leg of his three-nation tour. He was accorded a warm welcome by his Jordanian counterpart, Jafar Hassan, at the airport upon his arrival, reflecting the excellent relationship between the two nations.
The visit, at the invitation of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, is part of India's efforts to reinforce bilateral ties with Jordan. Prime Minister Modi will discuss the full spectrum of bilateral relations as well as regional developments during his stay from December 15 to 16 in a series of talks with King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.
Warm Welcome From Indian Diaspora in Jordan
Upon arriving at his hotel in Amman, PM Modi was greeted by a vibrant gathering of the Indian diaspora waving flags and chanting slogans in his honour. Children and members of the community performed cultural dances to frame this visit. He thanked them for the overwhelming welcome and complimented the diaspora for their role in the close ties between India and Jordan.
“Deeply touched by the affection of the Indian community in Amman. It reflects very well the strong bonds of a transnational family, pride in progress, and enduring connection between India and its diaspora,” PM Modi tweeted.
As part of his visit, the Prime Minister witnessed a classical dance performance themed around Indian culture, further highlighting the people-to-people links between the two countries. During the bilateral meetings, leaders are expected to discuss trade, investment, energy, defence, security, technology, and cultural exchanges.
A joint business forum of India and Jordan will also be held where PM Modi and King Abdullah II would address the topmost representatives of the leading businesses in both the countries and discuss ways to enhance the economic cooperation and investment opportunities between the two nations.
Historic Significance: 75 Years Of India-Jordan Relations
The visit comes as India and Jordan mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries-a milestone that is expected to give a boost to bilateral cooperation across sectors. Prime Minister Modi termed the visit as historic, saying it gave an opportunity to explore newer avenues for mutual growth while deepening strategic ties and promoting peace and stability in the region.
India and Jordan have enjoyed traditionally strong relations anchored in political, economic, and cultural cooperation. Jordan is one of India's key partners in the Middle East, with bilateral trade currently valued at USD 2.8 billion. The country remains a major supplier of phosphates and potash, crucial for India's agricultural sector.

Following Jordan, PM Modi will travel to Ethiopia from December 16 to 17, marking his first visit to the African nation. He will meet Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, and interact with the Indian diaspora. Home to the headquarters of the African Union, Ethiopia also is one of the growing strategic partners with India, especially after its entry into the G20 as a permanent member.

The last leg of his tour will take Prime Minister Modi to Oman on the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik from December 17-18. The visit is also marked as 70 years of India-Oman diplomatic relations and would predominantly be on strategic partnership, economic collaboration, and engagements with the Indian community in Oman. The four-day, three-nation tour underlines India's expanding global outreach and commitment to strengthening bilateral, regional, and global partnerships in the emerging world order.
