Russia Knife Attack: As many as four Indian students among several other people have suffered injuries after a teenager went on a knife rampage in a college in Russia's Ufa, the Indian Embassy in Moscow said. In a statement, the embassy in Russia said an ‘unfortunate incident of attack’ had taken place in a Russian college and that it was in touch with local authorities.

The Embassy’s confirmation came hours after local media reported a knife attack in the college’s foreign students’ hostel on Saturday in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic. In an X post made late Saturday, the embassy said that officials were on their way to Ufa to provide required assistance to affected students.

"An unfortunate incident of attack has occurred in Ufa. Several persons including four Indian students have been injured. The Embassy is in touch with the authorities and the officials from the Consulate in Kazan are on their way to Ufa to provide assistance to the injured students," the Indian embassy in Moscow said.

What Is The Knife Attack In Russia’s Ufa

As per the new agency PTI, the preliminary report suggested a teenager armed with a knife entered the State Medical University in Ufa and stabbed several students.

Four students and two police officials have been admitted to the local hospital. As per Ren TV, eyewitnesses said there was ‘blood all around’.

"The attacker resisted arrest, during which two police officers were stabbed. Furthermore, the suspect also inflicted bodily harm on himself," Russia's Interior Ministry spokesperson Major General Irina Volk told local media.

Credible russian telegram chennels reportedly speculate that there could have been two attackers. One of the attackers is a 15-year-old who is not in good condition and was admitted to the hospital.

Russia and Ukraine have been among the few countries where Indian students go to pursue medical education. While Ukraine, as a preferred destination for Indian students to study medicine, has witnessed a severe contraction after the war, they continued moving to Russia for higher education.
