Switzerland Train Accident: A train carrying nearly 80 passengers in the southwestern canton of Valais, Switzerland, derailed after a major avalanche struck the line on Monday morning. Authorities in the region have expressed fear of multiple injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the site as rescue efforts began immediately, with authorities saying injuries were ‘likely’.
The train, carrying around 80 passengers, was forced off the tracks near the village of Goppenstein in the southwestern canton of Valais.

Train Began Journey From Brig
The train, which met with an accident near Goppenstein around 7 am local time due to an avalanche, began its journey from Brig town around 6 am on Monday, February 16. Several carriages of the train were forced off track due to unfavourable track conditions after an avalanche.
The avalanche which come down in the Stockgraben area affected the railway track, said GB News. As per the confirmation received by the police about the rescue operation, 30 people were rescued, and efforts to rescue the remaining were underway.
Train Services Suspended On Frutigen–Brig Line
After the terrifying accident in one of Switzerland’s most popular tourist regions, the train services on the Frutigen–Brig railway line between Goppenstein and Brig were suspended. As per GB News, quoting the Swiss Federal Railways, the service disruption may continue until at least 4 am on Tuesday. Restrictions were imposed on local rail routes to ensure safety.
