Following the seismic shift in West Asia caused by the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli strike, the world’s attention has turned to Ali Larijani. Long regarded as a pragmatic intellectual and a steady hand within the Iranian establishment, Larijani has traded his diplomatic tone for one of fierce defiance.
On March 1, just 24 hours after the air strikes that eliminated Khamenei and IRGC Commander Mohammad Pakpour, the 67-year-old Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council took to state television. His message marked a departure from the man who once negotiated nuclear accords and studied German philosophy.
"America and the Zionist regime have set the heart of the Iranian nation ablaze," Larijani declared. "We will burn their hearts in return and make these criminals regret their actions.

Larijani has accused US President Donald Trump of falling into an "Israeli trap" and has vowed a military response of a magnitude the West has "never experienced before."
According to conservative analyst Nasser Imani, Larijani was trustworthy person for Khamenei because of his political experience and strategies, Khamenei calling him right figure for sensitive juncture.
The Transition Of Power
As Tehran faces its most significant leadership vacuum since the 1979 Revolution, Larijani has become the face of the transition. According to reports from the Times of Israel, Larijani confirmed that a temporary leadership mechanism has been activated to manage the state in the wake of Khamenei’s death.
The 'Kennedys Of Iran': Who Is Ali Larijani?
Larijani hails from a political and religious dynasty so powerful they have been dubbed the "Kennedys of Iran." He was born in Najaf, Iraq, in 1958.
He holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Sharif University, alongside a Master’s and Doctorate in Western Philosophy from the University of Tehran, where he specialised in the works of Immanuel Kant.
His marriage to the daughter of Morteza Motahhari, a key confidant of Ayatollah Khomeini, cemented his place within the revolutionary elite.

The Larijani influence extends through every branch of the Iranian government. His father was a renowned religious scholar and his brothers have occupied top-tier positions in the judiciary and the Assembly of Experts, the very body responsible for selecting the next Supreme Leader.
