At least six people were killed and 48 others injured after a massive fire broke out at a chemical factory in Maharashtra's Thane district on Thursday. The incident occurred after an explosion in the boiler of Amber Chemical Company located in Phase 2 of the Dombivli MIDC area. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said that eight people, who were trapped on the premises, were rescued by the emergency services and the injured were rushed to the hospital for medical assistance.
''Arrangements have been made to treat the injured and more ambulances have been kept ready. I have discussed with the Thane collector and they are also reaching the spot... Teams of NDRF, TDRF, and fire brigade have been called,'' the deputy CM wrote on X, adding that he is praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The intensity of the blast was so high that the glass windows of adjoining buildings suffered cracks as a result of the blast. The blast was so loud that it could be heard a kilometre away, an eyewitness said.

Chief of the Disaster Management cell of the Thane civic body, said the explosion occurred at the chemicals factory around 1:40 pm. The blaze was triggered by the spread to three adjoining buildings and thick plumes of smoke and fire was seen from a long distance, he said.
According to the fire department officials, as soon as the information of the explosion was received, a total of eight fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the scene for reuse operations. Teams from Thane civic body's Regional Disaster Management Cell and 13 jawans from the Thane Disaster Response Force have also reached the scene, an official said, adding efforts are on to bring the blaze under control.
