Nigdi-Chakan Metro: In a major update, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has proposed a new metro corridor in Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune.

The corridor will be 41 km long and will run from Nigdi to Chakan. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the corridor. According to the DPR, the entire project is likely to take shape at a cost of Rs 10,383.89 crore.

The project will be an entirely elevated corridor with 31 stations, passing through densely populated areas like Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, and Bhosari.

The Maha Metro (MMRCL) has proposed the name of the corridor to be Bhakti Shakti-Wakad-Nashik Phata-Chakan. The metro train will run at a speed of 80 kmph on the corridor. The corridor will be the longest metro route and will cover 75 per cent of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area.

The line will also be linked to other Pune Metro lines. The Maha Metro has proposed two skywalks at Wakad and Sant Tukaramnagar for commuters to switch to the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar line or the Swargate–Pimpri-Chinchwad line, respectively.

For the corridor, a depot-cum-workshop has also been proposed in Bhosari. It will be built on a land owned by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
