Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, criticised the state’s worsening law and order situation, citing official data during a recent debate. The Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC claimed Maharashtra recorded 1.6 lakh criminal cases from January to May 2025, including 924 murders and 3,506 rapes. Highlighting Nagpur, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis’s home turf, Danve said 6,000 cases were reported in the city alone.
He added that the state saw 30,000 thefts and 156 dacoities, while drug abuse was now spreading into rural areas. Accusing the BJP-led Mahayuti government of failing on internal security, Danve also pointed to rising corruption, alleging that frequent scams reveal deeper systemic issues. His remarks have intensified the Opposition’s attack on the government over public safety, governance lapses, and lack of accountability.
