A female doctor, who died by suicide at a district hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara, after alleged harassment and rape by police personnel, left a suicide note on her palm. The victim ended her life at Phaltan sub-district hospital on Thursday.

The victim, before taking extreme action, wrote a note on her palm, accusing two police officers of mental harassment and rape over the last five months, which allegedly led her to end her life.

Following the recovery of the victim's body, the Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are looking into serious accusations levelled.

As per senior police officers from the Satara district, the contents of the suicide note are being verified, and further inquiry will follow based on forensic and digital evidence.

Victim Writes Suicide Note On Hand

In her suicide note, allegedly written on her hand, the doctor accused Police Inspector Gopal Badne of raping her multiple times. She also mentioned that Police Officer Prashant Bankar had been mentally harassing her for several months.

"We have registered a case, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. We are also investigating the allegations mentioned in the suicide note on the victim's hand," an official from the Satara police said.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took an update from Satara superintendent of police, ordering the immediate suspension of the police officers named by the woman doctor in her suicide note.

The doctor was entangled in an ongoing dispute between the police department and the health department over medical examination procedures. In the wake of the dispute, an internal inquiry was initiated against her, Pune Mirror reported, quoting sources.

Her colleagues now allege that no action was taken despite repeated complaints and pleas for help, the report added.
