Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Navi Mumbai for allegedly staying illegally in India, police said on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the anti-human trafficking cell of Navi Mumbai police raided a residential building in Koparkhairne on Saturday, apprehending four women and a man.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the individuals had entered India using forged documents, according to an official from the Koparkhairne police station. The women, aged between 34 and 45 years, were employed as housekeepers, while the 38-year-old man worked as a painter, reported news agency PTI.

Police registered an FIR against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and forgery. Additionally, they face charges under the Passport (Entry into India) Rules-1950 and the Foreigners Act-1946.

Border Security Concerns Amid Unrest In Bangladesh

The resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has raised concerns of a potential influx of Bangladeshi nationals into India's northeastern states, reminiscent of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Experts have warned that states like Tripura, Assam, West Bengal and Meghalaya could face significant repercussions due to unrest in Bangladesh.

On Friday, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted an attempt by about 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals to cross into India through the Cooch Behar district in West Bengal. The group, primarily Hindus seeking refuge, was intercepted near a water body in Bangladesh's Lalmonirhat district and with coordination from the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), they were turned back.
