Maharashtra Local Body Election 2025 Results: A day after polling concluded for Phase 2, Maharashtra awaits the outcome of the civic polls, as the counting of votes for all 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats is set to begin at 10 am today. While the BMC elections are scheduled to take place in mid-January, the results of these elections will serve as a crucial test for parties such as the BJP, Shiv Sena, and MNS, among others.
The elections were held in two phases. Phase 1 voting took place on 2 December 2025 for 263 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Phase 2 voting concluded on 20 December 2025 for the remaining 23 bodies and 143 vacant seats.
Voting for the posts of presidents and members in 23 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, along with 143 vacant member posts, ended at 5:30 pm on Saturday.
During the voting, irregularities and disputes were reported from areas such as Nanded, Thane, and Washim. However, voting in the second phase of the municipal elections for 23 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Maharashtra was completed peacefully.
The Maharashtra State Election Commission had earlier announced a final voter turnout of 67.63 per cent for the first phase of polling held on 2 December, which covered 263 municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
While voting for the second phase of civic polls, covering 23 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, along with 143 vacant posts, concluded on Saturday evening, it was reported that the voting began at 7:30 am, with a voter turnout of 47.04 per cent by noon, according to the news agency PTI.
In Nashik, a turnout of 49.47 per cent was recorded in Sinnar, Ojhar, and Chandwad. However, an incident of electoral fraud also surfaced.
The contests saw a direct fight between the BJP-led Mahayuti and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), alongside friendly battles within alliances. With key local bodies such as Baramati and Ambernath in the fray, the results are expected to offer important political signals ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
This time, the elections in Dondaicha Municipal Council and Angar Municipal Panchayat were uncontested. Similarly, the election for the Jammer Nagar President position also saw no competition. In these elections, the ruling alliance's coalition partners, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and the NCP led by Ajit Pawar, contested against each other.
The electoral battle witnessed intense competition between the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), with moments of friendly competition between these alliances.
The State Election Commission has announced that the counting of votes for all 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, including those that voted in the first phase on December 2 will begin at 10 am on December 21 .
