Maharashtra Weatehr Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts across Maharashtra, stating that the southwest monsoon will bring intensified rains from June 22.
The state generally gets good monsoon rainfall but also grapples with waterlogging that leads to traffic snarls and disruptions. As per the weather department, the ghat regions of Central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 22 and 25. The IMD has urged the residents to take necessary precautions.
Orange, yellow alert in these districts
For Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, the Ghats of Nashik, and the Ghats of Kolhapur, the IMD has issued a yellow alert of heavy rainfall at isolated places between June 23 to June 26.
An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain has been sounded for Raigad and Ratnagiri, the Ghats of Pune and Ghats of Satara on June 23 and 26. In Sindhudurg, the orange alert has been sounded for June 23 only. The above-mentioned cities and areas will receive heavy rainfall on all other days.
For Pune, the IMD has issued no alert but has forecasted light to moderate rain from June 23 to June 26. In Nagpur, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds on June 23, 25, and 26
Maharashtra weather forecast today
For today, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Ghats of Pune, Raigad and Ratnagiri and a yellow alert in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Ghats of Nasik, Ghats of Kolhapur, Ghats of Satara, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Nagpur.
Water level in seven lakes rise in Mumbai
In Mumbai, heavy rain has raised the water level in all seven lakes that supply drinking water to the city. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the total water stock went up 25 per cent of the full storage capacity.
