Thane News: People cross railway tracks often in hurry, without thinking about the consequences that come with their actions. In a similar incident, two you men lost their lives after bein run over by a train in Maharashtra's Thane district. The incident took place on the morning of December 2 between Diva and Nilaje stations on Mumbai-Konkan route, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official was quoted as saying on Wednesday by PTI.

The victims, run over by the Mandovi Express, have been identified as residents of Dativali Agasan locality in Diva. They were found lying close to the rail tracks, according to the officials.

The police on Tuesday registered a case of accidental death, he said, adding an investigation was on to ascertain the exact cause of their death. The GRP was also planning to question the train pilot to gather more details about the incident.

In another separate incident that took place at near Tiruvottiyur railway station, a 25-year-old woman was killed after being run over by an electric multiple unit (EMU) train. Reportedly, the incident occurred when the woman was trying to cross a railway track.

Identified as S Aishwarya, the body of the victim was recovered later by the Government Railway police. She used to work at an IT firm in Taramani.

Railways Bill To Be Discussed Today

Railways (Amendment) Bill 2024 bill proposes to simplify the legal framework by incorporating the proposals of the Indian Railway Board Act, 1905 in the Railways Act, 1989. This will reduce the need to refer to two laws.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in Lok Sabha on Wednesday that number of rail accidents has come down from 171 during UPA regime to 40 in 2023-24. In the current fiscal, 29 rail accidents have taken place so far. His remark came during a debate on the Railways (Amendment) Bill 2024 in the lower house.
