Mumbai News: A 19-year-old boy has been arrested by Shivaji Nagar police in Mumbai for allegedly poisoning his 16-year-old friend, Shaheen Shaikh and attempting to pass it off as an accidental death.
According to a Times Of India report, the incident took place on June 28 at the accused’s home in Govandi. Police said both teenagers had reportedly consumed an energy drink that night. The next day, Shaheen was found dead while the accused, Jeeshan Shaikh, also showed signs of vomiting. At the time, police registered an accidental death case based on Jeeshan’s version of events.
However, the autopsy later revealed the presence of a poisonous substance in Shaheen’s body, which led officers to suspect foul play. During questioning on July 5, Jeeshan allegedly confessed to mixing pesticide in the energy drink with the intention of killing Shaheen.
Police said Jeeshan felt that Shaheen was taking advantage of him financially and giving more importance to other friends. He told investigators that he came up with the idea during his visit to his native village in Uttar Pradesh last month during Eid.
Jeeshan, who works as a painter in a local garage, also drank a small amount of the poisoned beverage to avoid raising suspicion, according to police. He has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
In separate news, a 30-year-old man from Navi Mumbai has been booked for allegedly forcing his wife and mother-in-law to perform black magic rituals in the nude to help his brother-in-law get married, according to police. The man, originally from Devria in Uttar Pradesh, also took nude photos of the victims and allegedly instructed his wife to carry them to Ajmer. Later, he is said to have shared the images on the WhatsApp accounts of her father and brother. Based on a complaint, Vashi police registered a case on July 3 under various sections of the BNS, IT Act, and the Maharashtra anti-black magic law. No arrest has been made yet.
