Mumbai News: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has revised its proposed rail overbridge (ROB) project at the Mothagaon level crossing in Dombivli, expanding it from two lanes to four. The upgrade aims to accommodate the area’s growing traffic volume and improve connectivity.

Once completed, the rail overbridge is expected to significantly cut the travel time between Dombivali and Thane via the Mankoli flyover, reducing the current one-hour journey to 25 minutes. The project is expected to provide major relief to daily commuters grappling with heavy congestion in the region.

The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 170 crore and will be executed in collaboration with the Railways, Times of India quoted officials as saying. The KDMC already submitted the proposal to the state government for funding approval, which is expected to be allocated soon.

Public Demand Drives Expansion Of ROB In Dombivli

The decision to widen the proposed overbridge in Dombivli was taken after repeated demands from citizens and local representatives, including former Sena (UBT) corporator Dipesh Mhatre, who emphasised the need for a larger structure to meet future traffic requirements.

Mhatre further said that the KDMC has allocated Rs 68 crore to compensate nearly 600 families and individuals who will be displaced by the project. “This is the first time KDMC is offering compensation of this scale. Earlier, those affected by civic projects were only given transfer of development rights (TDR),” the TOI report added.

ROB Expansion To Boost Connectivity

Upon receiving final approval from the state government, the project is expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel time between Dombivli and Thane to 25 minutes, offering faster and smoother commutes to thousands of people.
