Mumbai AC Local Train: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Mumbai will soon see air-conditioned local trains with metro-like features, including automatic doors. The move is aimed at making daily travel more comfortable and safer for commuters. He assured that there would be no increase in ticket prices.

Speaking in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Fadnavis said that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will visit Mumbai shortly to make an official announcement regarding the AC local coaches.

Referring to the recent train accident in Mumbra on June 9, which led to five deaths, the Chief Minister said the current local trains have become unsafe due to overcrowding and open doors. He compared these conditions to the metro trains, where closed-door coaches ensure safer and smoother travel. Fadnavis said the state has requested the Centre to introduce metro-style, fully AC local coaches without any fare hike.

He further said that Vaishnaw, who is presently in Mumbai, has responded positively and will share the final decision soon.

Work is also progressing quickly on the Vadhavan Port project, which is expected to be among the top ten ports globally, according to the Chief Minister. He added that this port would enhance Maharashtra’s maritime capabilities.
