Mumbai Metro Line-3 Update: In a bid to strengthen pedestrian connectivity along the newly launched Mumbai Metro Line 3, or Aqua Line, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) has announced plans to construct two subways connecting key neighbourhoods and upcoming infrastructure projects.

According to a Hindustan Times report, one subway will link the Worli Science Centre station with the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Worli Promenade, and Nehru Planetarium, while the second will connect Bandra Kurla Complex station to the Bullet Train terminal.

Two Subway To Boost Connectivity At Worli And BKC

- According to MMRCL officials, the two pedestrian subways will span over 3 kilometres.

- The Worli Science Centre station subway will be 1.6 km long, providing access to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, the upcoming garden along the Coastal Road, and the planned commercial centre on the site of the now-defunct Worli Dairy.

- The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station subway will be 1.4 km long, linking commuters to the Bullet train terminal and key areas around the BKC, officials added.

- Speaking to Hindustan Times, R Ramana, Director of MMRCL, said, “We will soon appoint an agency to prepare a detailed project report to construct the two pedestrian vestibules or subways spread over 3 kilometres.”

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been appointed as the planning authority for the Worli Dairy depot. The cost of constructing two subways will be finalised in a later stage.

“The state urban development department will soon modify the Development Control and Promotional Regulations and change the reservation of the Worli Dairy plot to commercial,” the official added.
