Mumbai Metro Line 4: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has begun construction of several foot overbridges across four suburban railway stations to improve the last-mile connectivity on the Mumbai Metro Green Line-4 and 4A (Wadala-Thane), as per a report by Mid-Day.
MMRDA had invited bids for foot overbridges at Pant Nagar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, and Vijay Garden (Thane), with an estimated outlay of Rs 129 crore. An additional Rs 8 crore has been earmarked for utility relocations. These new FOBs will connect metro stations to existing skywalks, such as those at Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Bhandup.
This follows a recent tender to link the SEEPZ Metro station (Pink Line-6) with the Aqua Line-3 via elevated pedestrian pathways. Meanwhile, Metro Line-9, extending 10.54 km from Dahisar East to Mira Bhayandar, is moving ahead with a focus on environmental conservation. The car depot at Dongri has undergone a two-phase tree impact assessment.
In October 2024, a proposal concerning 2,500 trees was submitted to Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), with plans to transplant 574 and preserve 1,094. However, 832 trees were marked for removal.
A second proposal in February 2025 addressed 9,900 more trees; 7,016 will be transplanted locally, while 2,884 are to be cut. Overall, 3,716 trees will be felled across both phases, but 7,590 will be relocated and 1,094 left undisturbed. To offset the impact, MMRDA will plant approximately 25,000 new trees.
