Mumbai Metro Update: The upcoming stretch of the Mumbai Metro will directly connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) with the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The Gold line of line 8 of the Mumbai Metro will achieve a milestone in urban connectivity. Spanning 35 kilometres, the Gold line will be the first corridor of the Mumbai Metro to connect CSMIA in Andheri to the new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). 

The project, which will be managed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on the Mumbai side and by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on the Navi Mumbai side, aims to be completed by 2029. The deadline set for the completion of the corridor is a tentative date. 

The Gold Line, poised to operate at a remarkable speed of 90 km/h, will be faster than other metro services. It will feature eight approved stations. This corridor will encompass a 9.25-kilometre underground section and a 25.63-kilometre elevated portion. The estimated cost of the stretch stands at Rs 15,000 crore.

The approved eight stations will be built at key points such as Kurla, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, and Belapur, Moneycontrol reported. 

The metro will start from Terminal 2 at CSMIA in Andheri and will run on an underground track until Chedda Nagar in Chembur, and then shift to an elevated track till NMIA.
