In a tragic incident that unfolded in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Sunday, a seven-year-old boy died while his sister sustained grave injuries after they were thrashed by a ‘chapati roller’ for their demand for non-vegetarian food.

As per preliminary investigation, the police told NDTV that the boy, identified as Chinmay Dhumde, had told his mother, Pallavi Dhumde, that he wanted to have some chicken. This enraged the mother, who beat her son till he died. On the other hand, her daughter, who was injured during the incident, is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries at a nearby hospital.

Upon hearing the screams of the little children, neighbors informed the police, prompting personnel from the local police station, the crime branch, and the sub-divisional officer to rush to the scene, officials reported.

A murder case has been registered in connection with the incident, and the woman accused has been taken into custody, they added.

"Pallavi Ghumde, 40, lived with her family in a flat in the Kashipada area. Her son, Chinmay Ganesh Ghumde, 7, was brutally beaten with household items and died as a result of the beating. Her 10-year-old daughter was also beaten. A murder case has been registered at the Palghar police station. The Palghar police are conducting further investigations," said district Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh.
