Mumbai Jumbo Block: The Western Railway has announced a block on its suburban train network. This essential maintenance work is scheduled to take place over the course of a night, offering a relief for passengers during the day. The block, which has been dubbed a "jumbo block," will be in effect from the midnight on Saturday, July 13 until 04:15 on Sunday, July 14. Contrary to the usual practice, there will be no daytime block on Sunday, allowing commuters to enjoy regular train services throughout the day.

The block will be focused on the section between Mumbai Central and Mahim stations, affecting the up and down fast lines. During this period, all fast trains will be diverted to the slow line between Santa Cruz and Churchgate stations.

Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as the diversion of fast trains to the slow tracks may result in slightly longer travel times.

In a related development, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and Thane districts, predicting heavy rainfall in isolated areas on Saturday, July 13. The IMD has also cautioned about the likelihood of high tide in the sea, which is expected to reach up to 3.69 metres, advising the public to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.

The IMD has attributed the intense rainfall and strong winds currently experienced in Mumbai to a cyclonic circulation developing over the region. As a result, the weather department has issued an orange alert for the Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Goa areas.

On Friday, Colaba recorded 86 millimetres of rainfall, while Santa Cruz saw 115 millimetres of precipitation within a span of just 3 hours. Building on this, the IMD has predicted that Mumbai and Thane are likely to experience more than 15 millimetres of rain per hour on Saturday.
