According to a senior agency official, two Deputy Chief Controllers of Explosives who collaborated with PESO were also taken into custody.

The government body in charge of overseeing the safety of dangerous materials like explosives, compressed gases, and petroleum is called PESO.

According to the FIR, Deshpande collaborated to secure work for Kachhawaha's company by bribing PESO officials while acting as an intermediary.

By March 2024, the company intended to use up to 75 per cent of its capacity for producing electronic detonators, and it is alleged that the accused helped to amend the company's current license to make this possible.

Deshpande and Kachhawaha were apprehended by the CBI on Wednesday night at a typing shop close to the Seminary Hills PESO office, allegedly accepting cash of Rs 10 lakh.

The agency then purportedly retrieved Rs 1.25 crore from Deshpande's home and an additional Rs 90 lakh from the workplace of a PESO official on trial.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday night.

According to officials, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed, and additional investigation is being conducted with the assistance of CBI deputy inspector general Salim Khan.
