A 29-year-old national-level kabaddi player, Kiran Suraj Dadhe, committed suicide in Nagpur, Maharashtra, after her husband failed to fulfill a job promise he had made before their marriage. Kiran, who was financially weak, had married 30-year-old Swapnil Jaydev Lambghare in 2020, hoping the promised employment would help her and her family overcome financial difficulties.
According to the NDTV report, Kiran later realised that she had been deceived, as Swapnil repeatedly delayed providing the job and allegedly subjected her to mental harassment, including demanding sexual favors. She eventually left his house and returned to her parents’ home. Facing threats and verbal abuse, her family urged her to file for divorce in a family court. Kiran reportedly preserved messages on her phone as evidence of the harassment.
On December 4, she attempted suicide by consuming poison and was hospitalised, but she succumbed three days later. The police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to abetment of suicide, and are actively searching for Swapnil.
In a separate incident, Krishnakant, a 25-year-old MCA student from NIET College in Greater Noida, was found dead by suicide in his hostel room in the Knowledge Park area. The student, a resident of Jharkhand, lived with a roommate, Ritik, and was discovered hanging from a ceiling hook on Saturday after a warning call from his father. A suicide note was recovered, in which Krishnakant requested his belongings be given to his family and apologized for the trouble.
While the exact reason for the suicide remains unclear, Ritik informed police that Krishnakant suffered from a severe head-related medical condition that caused involuntary bending of his head during long study hours, affecting his academics and daily life. Police are investigating all angles, including speaking with friends, family, and college authorities, and examining his mobile phone, recent behavior, and hostel entries.
