Navi Mumbai International Airport: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport during his Maharashtra visit on October 8-9. During his Maharashtra visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate Mumbai’s Metro 3 line.

The inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport was slated for September 30. However, the inauguration ceremony was postponed due to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast for heavy rains in the Mumbai Metropolitan region and Konkan between September 27 and 29.

Navi Mumbai International Airport To Become Major Aviation Hub

The Navi Mumbai International Airport will be developed in five phases. Of these, the first phase of the airport will be designed to handle 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually. Upon completion, the airport is expected to handle 90 million passengers and manage 3.2 MMT of cargo each year, establishing it as a major aviation hub.

Air India To Launch Operations At NMIA

Air India Express, the low-cost carrier of the Air India group, has confirmed that it is the first airline to launch operations from the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport. Initially, the airline will operate 20 daily departures to more than 15 domestic destinations. By mid-2026, this is expected to grow to 55 daily departures, including five international routes, the Free Press Journal reported.
