Pune Metro Update: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) is reportedly planning to reduce wait time between trains to five minutes on the Vanaz-Ramwadi and PCMC-Swargate routes of the Pune Metro. The officials stated the decision was taken after a significant surge in ridership in the past few months. They further stated that the move is likely to benefit thousands of commuters on these routes, especially duringoffice hours. Earlier last month, the authority had stated that several new changes will be announced in the upcoming months due to an increase in ridership. The Maha Metro is also likely to introduce other changes to boost the regional connectivity.

One of the Maha Metro officials, while providing details, stated that the preparation works have been done to reduce the interval between two trains on these routes, reported the Times of India. He also stated that the ridership has increased on these routes as they connect several key locations of the city, including prominent offices and government buildings. “The system is fully equipped to operate at this frequency, and we’ve already run trains at five-minute intervals during the Palkhi processions without any issues,” the official was quoted as saying by TOI.

While reacting to the decision, several commuters stated that the reduced wait time will provide relief, especially duringoffice hours. "The Metro has been a great alternative to getting stuck in traffic, but recently the crowd during peak hours has been overwhelming. Increasing the frequency to every four or five minutes, especially during office rush, would really help,” one of the commuters was quoted as saying by Pune Pulse.
