Pune News: In an unusual incident in Pune, authorities discovered over 300 cats residing in unhygienic conditions within an apartment in the state’s Marvel Bounty Cooperative Housing Society. The incident came to light after receiving complaints from neighbors about foul odours and unhygienic conditions.

Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) conducted an inspection of the apartment. According to the investigation, several cats were discovered from the flat located on the 9th floor of the building.

It was found that the cats lived in cramped spaces with inadequate litter facilities. The cats lacked proper veterinary care, and there were no records of vaccinations or sterilization measures. In response to the unsanitary conditions, the SPCA issued a 48-hour notice to the apartment's owners, instructing them to relocate the cats to a proper facility.

"The owner of an apartment in Marvel Bounty Society would often bring stray cats home and release them when the cats became healthy... Due to this, many cats had accumulated in the apartment, creating unhygienic conditions, which disturbed the neighbours," news agency ANI quoted Inspector Nilesh Jagdale as saying.

"The neighbours called the Municipal Corporation, and its officials reached the apartment, surveyed the flats, and notified the owner that all the cats would be released within 2 days... No case has been registered yet, and we will consult our senior officials and corporation officials to take legal action. The cats will go into the possession of the Municipal Corporation and will be rescued...,” he added.

The authorities have been consulting senior officials regarding possible legal action against the apartment owners, Rinku Bharadwaj and her sister Ritu Bharadwaj, for maintaining unsanitary conditions and hoarding animals.
