Pune Rape Case: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday ordered that the state police DGP act immediately in the matter after taking suo-motu cognisance of the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman aboard a halted Shivshahi bus at Pune's Swargate depot. Police said that the alleged crime happened early Tuesday morning.
Within three days, the commission requested that the police provide an action taken report along with a copy of the first information report (FIR). It encouraged the DGP to provide the victim with all the help she needs and demanded a "fair and time-bound investigation."
The victim alleges that the accused came up to her and offered to take her to the "right" bus. He persuaded her that it was the "right" transport, despite her reluctance to board a dimly lighted bus. According to PTI, he gained her trust by referring to her as "Didi," or "sister."
