Pune Traffic: Pune residents experienced significant traffic jams on Saturday evening as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis arrived to inaugurate the Pune Book Festival at Fergusson College grounds. The heavy congestion, particularly around Fergusson College, Deccan and Khandujibaba Chowk, left many motorists stuck in long queues, complicating their commutes.

According to a Pune Mirror report, major roads, such as Namdar Gopal Krishna Gokhale Chowk and Fergusson College Road, were heavily impacted as the area became crowded for the inauguration. The situation worsened in the evening when the Chief Minister's convoy passed through the Kharadi bypass, causing additional delays for those trying to reach shopping malls and other destinations.

Compounding the traffic issues were ongoing construction works at Apte Chowk. Pedestrians struggled to navigate the area, as construction for underground sewage channels and materials scattered on footpaths created hazardous conditions.

This incident highlights the growing traffic challenges in Pune. The increasing frequency of VIP visits, coupled with poorly planned roadworks, has intensified congestion problems. With multiple ministers and officials now visiting the city regularly, residents have raised concerns about the rising occurrence of traffic jams.

Many citizens are calling on local authorities to implement better traffic management strategies and maintain roads more effectively, including addressing potholes. Pune's rapid urbanisation and its status as a political hub are likely to lead to more such disruptions in the future. Residents are urging officials to develop long-term solutions to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the city's road infrastructure.
