Mumbai Road Accident: Five people, including a 10-year-old child, narrowly escaped on Sunday after the cab they were in toppled after being hit by a BMW on the Bandra-Worli Sea-Link. The BMW reportedly raced alongside a Mercedes. Police in Mumbai have allegedly detained the drivers of BMW and Mercedes cars on accusations of attempted culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
According to many media reports, the two luxury cars lost control while rushing along the sea link at 10:20 AM and collided with the Wagon R. Nobody was seriously injured during the event.
The collision occurred at pillar number 19 on the northbound portion of the Bandra-Worli Sea Bridge. A family of four, comprising a couple, their 10-year-old kid, and an elderly woman, were heading to Bandra in a cab driven by Nisar Ahmed.
The Mercedes and BMW vehicles approached from behind while the taxi was traveling on the left side of the road. The police said that when the luxury cars got closer to the cab, they clashed and the BMW struck the cab. The speed restriction on the sea connection is 80 km/h.
“Due to the impact of the collision, the cab overturned after hitting railings next to the road and then on the divider on the right side of the road,” Indian Express reported quoting a police source.
Following the collision, Worli police detained Mercedes driver Shahbaz Khan (31) and BMW driver Tariq Chaudhary (29). The IE report states that both individuals are employed by private firms, and the cars in question were registered under those names.
They were allegedly arrested on allegations of attempted culpable homicide of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and violations of the Motor Vehicle Act for reckless and careless driving.
