A Class 10 student of a tribal ashram school in Maharashtra's Thane district was found hanging from a tree near his institution, police said on Monday.  The incident took place in the Murbad area on Saturday, where passers-by spotted the body and informed the authorities.

Police have yet to determine the reason behind the alleged suicide. The deceased student, originally from Khairepada in Palghar district’s Jawhar taluka, was enrolled at an aided residential school for tribal students.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Tokawde police station reached the location and sent the body for postmortem. A case of accidental death has been registered and an investigation is underway.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old student from Kerala died by suicide on January 15 after enduring severe bullying at a top private school in Kochi. According to the student's mother, he was repeatedly humiliated, forced to “lick toilet seats,” and had his “head shoved into the toilet while it was flushed.”

The teenager took the extreme step after returning home from school, deeply affected by the alleged harassment. His grieving mother has filed a formal complaint at the Hill Palace Police Station in Thripunithura and also petitioned the Child Commission to launch an investigation. The petition further alleges mistreatment by the Vice Principal of the boy’s previous school, raising concerns about the extent of bullying in educational institutions.
