A distressing video from Maharashtra has gone viral on social media, showing a farmer desperately attempting to save his crop from being washed away in heavy rain. The clip captures the harsh reality faced by many farmers in the state who are suffering losses due to unexpected and untimely rainfall.
The farmer in the video, Gaurav Panwar, had brought his peanut harvest to a market in Washim when sudden rain began pouring down. As the rain started damaging his produce, a helpless Mr Panwar was seen using his bare hands in an attempt to save what he could his face reflecting pure despair.

The heart-wrenching visuals drew the attention of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan, who reached out to Panwar over the phone and promised compensation for the loss.
Shivraj Chouhan later posted a video of their conversation on X, where Panwar is heard sharing his distress over the extent of his losses.
"It (the video) pained me. But, don't worry. The Maharashtra government is very sensitive to the issue of farmers. I have spoken to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the state's agriculture minister. I have spoken to the collector as well. Whatever losses have occurred will be compensated so that you and your family don't face any trouble," Chouhan was heard saying.

"They will try to solve the issue by Monday... We are all with you," he assured.
During the call, Panwar also mentioned he wasn’t feeling well after getting drenched in the rain.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra NCP (Sharad Pawar) chief Jayant Patil referred to the viral video and called on the state government to act swiftly and extend help to farmers impacted by the unseasonal weather.
"The state is experiencing heavy unseasonal rainfall, with hailstorms reported in several regions. This has caused significant crop damage, and the meteorological department has predicted more rainfall in the coming days. I urge the government to provide immediate assistance to the affected farmers," he said in a statement.
