Famous Temples In Mathura: Mathura is one of the sacred and ancient holy cities in India which is regarded as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Often referred to as the sacred Braj Bhoomi, Mathura has a majority of divine temples. Mathura, which is famous for its history, epigraphy, faith, archaeology, artwork, and numismatics is located on the banks of the Yamuna River. 1. Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple - One of the most revered and cherished sites, Janmabhoomi Temple, is located in the middle of Mathura's crowded streets. Since it is thought to be the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna, this shrine is considered the holiest spot in Mathura and is a significant Hindu pilgrimage site. A noteworthy sight can be found behind the temple's main shrine, a tiny chamber that symbolises the prison where Lord Krishna was born. 

2. Dwarkadhish Temple - The sacred Dwarkadhish Temple is one of the oldest temples in Mathura. This temple is called “Dwarkadhish” as Lord Krishna reigned over Dwarka after leaving Braj. This sacred shrine which houses the idols of Radha and Krishna is situated in close proximity to Gatashrama and Vishram Ghat in the eastern section of the city.

3. Kesava Deo Temple - The Kesava Deo Temple, another Uttar Pradesh pilgrimage site, is one of the revered Hindu holy sites close to the major Krishna Janmabhoomi Complex in Mathura. The great-grandson of Lord Krishna, Shri Bajranabh, is credited with establishing the original deity in the temple premises. This Krishna temple is distinct from others in that it maintains its own calendar of festivals and hosts all events on-site. 

4. Gita Mandir - Gita Mandir, also called Birla Mandir, is one of the most important Hindu temples in Mathura. It is situated a few kilometres outside of the city centre, towards Vrindavan. Among the most amazing elements of this shrine is that it contains carvings depicting Lord Krishna reciting the Bhagavad Gita to the Pandava Prince Arjuna during the Kurukshetra War. In reality, there are eighteen chapters of the Bhagavad Gita carved on the pillars just at the temple's entrance.

5. Chamunda Devi Temple - One of the most significant spiritual getaways in India is Chamunda Devi Temple in Mathura, which is directly across from Maa Gayatri Tapobhumi. It is thought that a hair strand belonging to Maa Gayatri fell here. There is also mention of this event in the holy book of Shrimad Bhagwat. According to Satyug legend, after offering salvation to a python, Lord Krishna came here to seek the blessings of Maa Chamunda. The goddess Maa Chamunda is also the clan goddess of Nand Baba, who supposedly came asking for Maa Chamunda's blessings after completing the Mundan of Sri Krishna at Saraswati Kund.
