The text's name, Sapta, which means seven and Shata, which means hundred, already reveals something about what it is. The magnificent tales of Devi Durga's bravery and valour in battling the many demons that afflicted the universe with their cruelties are told in each chapter. During Navratri, the devotees recite the Durga Saptashati to accumulate great good fortune and receive the blessings of the goddess.
However, the devotees must adhere to certain rules and regulations while reciting the Durga Saptashati path. Let us know about them further.
Chaitra Navratri 2024: Rules To Follow While Reciting Durga Saptashati
1. Pronunciation Of Shlokas
You should pronounce the shlokas such that you can hear every word clearly and understand them as you recite them. Reciting aloud is not necessary. You can also say it aloud in your head without moving your lips if you'd like.
2. Use An Aasan To Sit
While performing the path or doing puja in general, you should never sit on the ground. One must stand or sit on an aasan to perform worship. You can recite the Durga Saptashati while sitting on a woollen sheet or spreading a blanket if you don't have a Kush aasan.
3. Wear These Clothes
Additionally, it is crucial that you wear non-stiched clothing when reciting the path. This implies that males should wear dhotis and women should wear sarees. The scriptures forbid worshipping while dressed in sewn garments.

4. Stay Away From Distractions
Once you have completed all the vital work, you should sit down and recite Durga Saptashati. That is, it shouldn't happen that you are reciting the path while thinking about a task that needs to be done around the house or elsewhere. When reciting, one should not yawn or act lethargic. One should focus their mind entirely and surrender to Maa Durga.
5. Correct Way To Perform Path
The Durga Saptashati text is divided into three portions or three characters. Pratham Charitra, Madhyam Charitra and Uttam Chaitra are these three. The first adhyay is introduced in the Pratham Chaitra. The second to fourth adhyay are introduced in the Madhyam Charitra and the fifth to thirteenth adhyay are in the Uttam Charitra. When reciting the Durga Saptashati, the reciter is required to recite at least one Charitra completely. However, is recommended to recite all three Charitra at once.
