Chaturmas 2024: In the Hindu calendar, the four months of Chaturmas are considered holy. This four-month period begins on Devshayani Ekadashi starting from Ashadha month and ends on Devuthni Ekadashi in the sacred month of Kartik. Chaturmas include the months of Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin, and Kartik. It is believed that during Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu enters a profound state of meditation known as Yog Nidra. Four months later, he wakes up, signalling the end of Chaturmas. This year, Chaturmas will begin on 17th July 2024.

Chaturmas 2024: Significance Of This Four-Month Period In Hinduism
During Chaturmas, people don't celebrate any auspicious occasions like weddings, engagements, Janeu, Mundan, Grih Pravesh, naming rituals, or buying significant goods. This is because it is said that Lord Vishnu is in Yog Nidra, and it is unlucky to carry out living activities at this time.
Praying and doing pooja during this time, however, is said to be auspicious. Worshipping the gods and goddesses over these four months is believed by devotees to grant their wishes and bring pleasure and tranquillity into their homes.
Chaturmas 2024: Rituals Associated With This Sacred Period
Throughout these four months, devotees follow a variety of ceremonies. They fast during specified times (known as Maun vrat), refrain from eating particular foods, and do charitable deeds. Common customs include praying every day, fasting, reciting mantras, and taking part in religious processions. Numerous followers also go to sacred locations connected to the god Vishnu. In addition, devotees perform charitable work, recite Maha Mrityunjaya, read the Shiv Puran, and perform Bhagavat Pujan.

Chaturmas 2024: Scientific Facts Associated With This Four-Month Period
Science and reason both support the observation that the sun moves southward (Dakshinayan) during Chaturmas. Moreover, Chaturmas undergoes four distinct seasons: winter, monsoon, autumn, and rainy. There is a possibility that germs and illnesses will proliferate during this time owing to certain weather conditions.

In actuality, it's advisable to shun certain foods. Many foods—like curd, milk products, lentils, and green vegetables—are extremely heavy and challenging to digest.
