In Hinduism, the present Kalyug period, sometimes referred to as the "Age of Downfall" or the last phase of the Yug cycle, can be used to elevate oneself out of sadness and suffering via the practice of Satyanarayan Puja. It provides several advantages for one's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Check out the Samooporn vrat katha of Shri Satyanarayan Vrat below from Adhyay-1 to Adhyay-5.

Sampoorn Satyanarayan Bhagwan Vrat Katha (Adhyay -1)

First Chapter Of Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Once upon a time, in Naishiranya Tirtha, Shaunikadi, 88,000 sages asked Shri Sutji, O Lord! In this Kaliyuga, how can people without knowledge of Vedas get devotion to God? And how will they be saved? O great sage! Tell me some such penance which will give virtue in a short time and also give the desired result.

This is the kind of story we want to hear. Sutji, knowledgeable of all the scriptures, said: Oh revered among Vaishnavas! All of you have asked about the welfare of living beings, hence I will tell you about such a great fast which was asked by Narad ji to Lakshminarayan ji and Lakshmipati told it to the best person Narad ji. All of you listen to this carefully.

Once upon a time, Yogiraj Naradji, after wandering in many worlds with the desire for the welfare of others, reached the world of death. Here he saw almost all the human beings born in many births suffering from many sorrows due to their deeds. Seeing their suffering, Naradji started thinking about what efforts should be made which will definitely end human suffering. Meditating on this thought, he went to Vishnuloka. There he started praising Ish Narayan of the Gods who had conch, chakra, mace and padma in his hands and was wearing a garland around his neck.

While praising Narad ji said, Oh God! You are endowed with immense power, even mind and speech cannot reach you. You have no beginning, middle and end. My salutations to you who are the one who removes the sorrows of the devotees due to the formless form of creation. Hearing the praise of Naradji, Lord Vishnu said, O great sage! What's on your mind? For what purpose have you come? Tell him without hesitation.

On this Narada Muni said that people born in many births in the mortal world are suffering from many sorrows due to their deeds. Hey Nath! If you have mercy on me, then tell me how those people can get rid of their sorrows with just a little effort.

Shri Hari said, O Narad! You have asked a very good thing for the welfare of humans. By doing which a person becomes free from attachment, I am telling that thing, listen to it. There is a rare good fast in both the heaven and the mortal world which gives virtue. Today, out of love, I tell you this. By observing this fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan properly, a person immediately enjoys happiness here and attains salvation after death.

Hearing the words of Shri Hari, Naradji asked what is the result of that fast? And what is its law? Who observed this fast? On which day should this fast be observed? Explain everything in detail. After listening to Narad, Shri Hari said, this is the one who removes sorrow and grief and gives victory at all places. Man should worship Shri Satyanarayan in the evening with devotion and reverence along with Brahmins and brothers. Offer naivedya, banana fruit, ghee, milk and wheat flour only with devotion. Instead of wheat, take wheat flour, sugar and jaggery and mix all the edible items and offer it to God.

Feed food to your relatives including Brahmins and then eat food yourself. Get absorbed in the devotion of God with bhajan and kirtan. In this way, by observing this fast of Lord Satya Narayan, all the wishes of a person are definitely fulfilled. In this Kali Kaal i.e. Kaliyuga, this is the only simple solution for salvation in the mortal world.

Second Chapter Of Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Sut ji said, O sages! I will tell you the history of the person who had observed this fast in the past, listen carefully! There lived a very poor Brahmin in the beautiful city of Kashipuri. Troubled by hunger and thirst, he kept wandering on the earth.

God, who loved the Brahmins dearly, one day assumed the guise of a Brahmin and went to him and asked: O Vipra! Why do you roam around the earth feeling sad everyday? The poor Brahmin said, I am a poor Brahmin. I roam the earth seeking alms. Oh God! If you know any solution for this, please tell. The old Brahmin says that Lord Satyanarayan is the one who gives the desired results, so you should worship him. By doing this man becomes free from all sorrows.

Lord Satyanarayan, who came in the guise of an old Brahmin, disappeared after explaining all the rules of the fast to that poor Brahmin. The Brahmin started thinking in his mind that I will definitely observe the fast which the old Brahmin has asked me to observe. After taking this decision he could not sleep at night. He woke up early in the morning and decided to fast for Lord Satyanarayan and went for alms. That day a poor Brahmin got a lot of money in alms. Due to which he, along with his relatives, observed the fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan. After completing the fast of Lord Satyanarayan, that poor Brahmin was freed from all the sorrows and became rich with many types of properties.

From that time onwards this Brahmin started observing this fast every month. In this way, the person who observes the fast of Lord Satyanarayan will be freed from all types of sins and will attain salvation. The person who observes this fast will also be freed from all sorrows.

Sutji said that in this way I told you about Shri Satyanarayan Vrat as told by Narayan ji to Narad ji. Hey Wipro! What else can I say? The sage said, O sage! We all want to hear from that person in the world who else has observed this fast. There is a feeling of reverence in our mind for this.

Sutji said, O sages! All those who have observed this fast, listen! Once the same Vipra agreed to observe this fast with his relatives as per their wealth and opulence. At the same time, an old man selling wood came and kept the wood outside and went inside the Brahmin's house. The woodcutter, saddened by thirst, seeing him fasting, greeted Vipra and asked what he was doing, to which he told that he was fasting. And what will be the result of doing this? Please let me know also. The Brahmin said that this is the fast of Lord Satyanarayan who fulfills all the wishes. It is due to his grace that wealth and grains etc. have increased in my house.

The woodcutter was very happy to know about Satyanarayan Vrat from Vipra. After taking charanamrit and eating prasad, he went to his home. The woodcutter resolved in his mind that with the money he will get from selling wood today, he will perform the best fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan. With this thought in mind, the old man carried wood on his head and went to sell it in the city where more rich people lived. In that city he gets four times more price for his wood than before.

The old man gladly accepted the price, took bananas, sugar, ghee, milk, curd and wheat flour and went to his home with other materials for the fast of Lord Satyanarayan. There he called his relatives and worshiped Lord Satyanarayan as per the rituals and fasted. Due to the effect of this fast, the old woodcutter, having acquired wealth, son etc. and enjoyed all the pleasures of the world, went to Vaikuntha Dham in the last days.

Third Chapter Of Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Sutji said, O great sages, now I will tell the further story. In ancient times there was a wise king named Ulkamukh. He was a truthful speaker and a Jitendriya. Every day Dev used to go to places and relieve the sufferings of the poor by giving them money. His wife was a lotus-like face and a sati sadhvi. Both of them observed a fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan on the banks of river Bhadrashila. At the same time a Vaishya named Sadhu came. He also had a lot of money to do business. Seeing the king fasting, he started asking politely, O king! What are you doing full of devotion? I would like to hear so please let me know.

The king said, O sage! Along with my relatives, I am fasting and worshiping a very powerful Lord Shri Satyanarayan for the birth of a son. Hearing the words of the king, the sage said respectfully, O king! Tell me all the rules of this fast. I will also observe this fast as per your statement. I also do not have a child and by observing this fast I will definitely get a child. After hearing all the rules of the fast from the king, after retiring from business, he went to his home.

Sage Vaishya narrated to his wife the description of this fast for giving birth to a child and said that I will observe this fast when I have a child. The sage said such words to his wife Lilavati. One day, Lilavati, being happy with her husband, got pregnant by the grace of Lord Satyanarayan, being engaged in worldly religion. In the tenth month, a beautiful girl was born from her womb. Day by day she started growing like the moon of Shukla Paksha grows. Parents named their daughter Kalavati

One day Lilavati reminded her husband in sweet words that the time has come to observe the fast which you had resolved to observe for Lord Satyanarayan, you should observe this fast. The sage said, O dear! I will observe this fast on her marriage. Thus giving assurance to his wife he went to the city. Kalavati grew up living in her father's house.

Once the sage saw his daughter with her friends in the city, he immediately called the messenger and asked him to find a suitable groom for his daughter. Hearing the sage's words, the messenger reached Kanchan Nagar and after taking care of the girl there, brought a capable businessman's son. Seeing a suitable boy, the Sadhu called his relatives and got his daughter married but the unfortunate thing is that the Sadhu still did not observe the fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan.

On this Shri Bhagwan became angry and cursed that the sadhu should suffer a lot. The monk, skilled in his work, went to Ratnasarpur city located near the sea along with his son-in-law. Going there, both son-in-law and father-in-law together started doing business in the city of Chandraketu king. One day a thief was running away after stealing the king's money due to the illusion of Lord Satyanarayan. Seeing the king's soldiers chasing him, he kept the stolen money where the sage was staying with his son-in-law. When the king's soldiers saw the king's money lying with the sage Vaishya, he tied up both his father-in-law and son-in-law and happily took them to the king and said that we have caught those two thieves, you give orders for further action.

On the orders of the king, both of them were put in hard prison and all their wealth was also taken away from them. The sage's wife also became very sad due to the curse from Lord Shri Satyanarayan. Thieves stole the money kept in the house. Feeling extremely sad due to physical and mental pain and hunger and thirst, she went to the Brahmin's house in Kalavati, worried about food. There she saw the fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan and then heard the story. After taking the prasad, she returned home at night. Asked mother Kalavati, O daughter, where were you till now? What's on your mind?

Kalavati said to her mother, O mother! I have seen the fast of Lord Shri Satyanarayan in a Brahmin's house. Hearing the girl's words, Lilavati started preparing to worship God. Lilavati along with her family and relatives worshiped Lord Satyanarayan and asked for a boon that her husband and son-in-law should come home soon. He also prayed to forgive all our sins.

Lord Shri Satyanarayan was satisfied with this fast and appeared to King Chandraketu in his dream and said: O king! You leave those two prostitutes and return the money you took from them. If you don't do this, I will destroy your wealth, kingdom and children. After telling all this to the king he disappeared.

In the morning meeting, the king narrated his dream and then said that free the merchant sons from prison and bring them to the meeting. Both of them greeted the king as soon as they arrived. The king said in a sweet voice, O great gentlemen! Luckily you have received such a difficult sorrow but now you have no fear. Saying this, the king also made both of them wear new clothes and ornaments and returned double the amount of money that he had taken from them. Both the Vaishyas left for their home.

Fourth Chapter Of Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Sutji said, Vaishya greeted him and started his journey and started towards his city. After they had gone a little distance, Shri Satyanarayan, dressed as a dandi, asked him, O sage, what is in your boat? Abhivani merchant said laughingly: Hey Dandi! Y do u ask? Do you want to take money? My boat is full of vines and leaves. Hearing the harsh words of Vaishya, God said: May your words come true! Saying such words the dandi went away from there. Went some distance and sat on the sea shore. After Dandi left, Sadhu Vaishya was surprised to see the boat rising high after his daily routine and after seeing vines, leaves etc. in the boat, he fainted and fell on the ground.

When he woke up from unconsciousness, he was deeply saddened and his son-in-law said that he should not mourn, it is the curse of Dandi, hence we should seek refuge in him, only then our wish will be fulfilled. Hearing the words of his son-in-law, he went to Dandi and after saluting him with great devotion said, please forgive me for the untruthful words that I have said to you. Having said this, he became very grief stricken and started crying. Then Lord Dandi said, O son of the merchant! Because of my orders you have suffered again and again.

You turned away from my worship. The monk said, Oh God! Because of your illusion, even gods like Brahma do not know your form, then how can I, an ignorant person, know? You be happy, now I will worship you as per my capacity. Protect me and fill the boat with money like before.

Hearing the devotional words of the sage Vaishya, God became pleased and granted him the boon as per his wish and disappeared. When father-in-law and son-in-law came on the boat, the boat was filled with money, then after worshiping Lord Satyanarayan along with his other companions, they left for their city. When they reached near the city, they sent a messenger to the house to inform them. The messenger greets the sage's wife and says that the master has come near the city along with his son-in-law.

Hearing the messenger's words, the sage's wife Lilavati worshiped Lord Satyanarayan with great joy and said to her daughter Kalavati that I am going to see my husband, you should complete the work and come back soon. Hearing such words of mother, Kalavati hurriedly left the prasad and went to her husband. Due to the disobedience of Prasad, Lord Satyanarayan became angry and drowned her husband in water along with the boat. Not finding her husband there, Kalavati fell on the ground crying.

Seeing the boat sinking and the girl crying, the saint became sad and said, Oh Lord! Please forgive me and my family for the mistakes I have made. Hearing the humble words of the sage, Lord Satyanarayan became pleased and a voice from the sky said: O sage! Your daughter has left my Prasad and hence her husband has become invisible. If she returns home after eating the Prasad, she will definitely get her husband. Hearing such a voice, Kalavati reaches home and eats the Prasad and then comes back and sees her husband. After that the sadhu along with his relatives worship Lord Satyanarayan with all the rituals. After enjoying the pleasures of this world, he finally goes to heaven.

Fourth Chapter Of Satyanarayan Vrat Katha

Sutji said, O sages! I'll tell you another story, listen to that also carefully! There was a king named Tungadhwaj who was engaged in the maintenance of his subjects. He also suffered a lot by giving up God's offerings. Once after going to the forest and killing wild animals, he came under a banyan tree. There he saw the cowherds worshiping Lord Satyanarayan along with their brothers with devotion. Out of pride, the king did not go to the place of worship even after seeing them, nor did he pay obeisance to God. The cowherds gave prasad to the king but he did not eat it and left the prasad there and went to his city.

When he reached the city and found everything destroyed there, he soon understood that God had done all this. He again reached the cowherds and after performing the ritual puja, ate the prasad and by the grace of Lord Satyanarayan, everything became as before. After enjoying happiness for a long time, he attained heaven after death.

If a person observes this extremely rare fast, he will get wealth and grains by the grace of Lord Satyanarayan. The poor becomes rich and lives a life free from fear. A person who is childless gets the happiness of having a child and when all his wishes are fulfilled, he goes to Vaikuntha Dham in his last days.

Sutji said, now I tell the story of the second birth of the one who has observed this fast before. Old Shatanand Brahmin attained salvation by taking the birth of Sudama. The woodcutter attained salvation by becoming Nishad in the next life. A king named Ulkamukh went to Vaikuntha in the form of Dasharatha. A Vaishya named Sadhu attained salvation by disguising himself as Mordhwaj and slicing his son with a saw. Maharaj Tungadhwaj became self-fulfilled and attained salvation by doing devotional work towards God.
