Cheti Chand 2024: For Sindhis, the start of the Hindu New Year is signified by the particular festival of Cheti Chand. This event is celebrated on the first day of the Sindhi month of Chet, which falls on the lunar cycle of the lunisolar Hindu calendar. Cheti Chand, which falls on the same day, is the New Year's Day for Sindhis, the same as Gudi Padwa is for Marathis. Cheti Chand is observed as the birthday of Sai Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal.

Cheti Chand 2024: Date And Time

This year, the festival of Cheti Chand is being observed on 10th April 2024, Wednesday. The Hindu Panchang is utilised to determine the Cheti Chand Festival's date. This calendar states that the second day of the Sindhi month of Chet, or Chaitra Shukla Paksha, is when Cheti Chand is praised.

Cheti Chand 2024: Significance Of This Day

The festival of Cheti Chand is observed by Sindhis to commemorate the birth of Jhulelal, also called Uderolal, who is considered their patron saint. It is believed to be a very lucky day to start new endeavours. In Sindhi culture, "Chaitra" is referred to as the first month, or "Chet." Furthermore, the Sindhi community refers to the celebration as "Cheti Chand" since every new month in this Panchang begins with the new moon, or Chand. People used to go to a river or lake on the full moon day and offer "Akho," which is a pinch of rice combined with flour and milk.

This day holds great significance for the Sindhis, as they believe that it was on this day that Varun Dev, in the guise of Jhulelal, intervened to rescue the Sidhi community from the oppressive tyranny of a monarch who sought to eradicate both Hinduism and Sindhi culture. In addition, it is a day of worship and gratitude to the Water God.
