The Gayatri Mantra is notably one of the most well-known Mantras in Hinduism. It was originally mentioned in the Rig Veda, the first of the Vedas, which was composed in Sanskrit between 2500 and 3500 years ago. The Gayatri mantra is said to be composed by the legendary sage Vishwamitra. The twenty-four syllables of the Gayatri Mantra are divided into three triplets of eight syllables. The recitation of the Gayatri Mantra is considered auspicious as it purifies the chanter and the hearer. The 24 letters that make up the Gayatri mantra match to the 24 spinal vertebral bones. The personified form of Gayatri Mantra is known as a goddess or devi Gayatri.
