Hariyali Teej 2025, celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the Shravana month, holds immense significance in Hinduism, commemorating the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This sacred festival symbolises marital bliss, devotion and the onset of greenery and fertility brought by monsoon rains. Women observe fasts, wear green attire, apply mehendi and swing on decorated jhoolas, seeking blessings for their husbands' well-being and longevity or a loving life partner. The festival celebrates love, faith and feminine strength, reaffirming the bond between couples and the beauty of nature. This year, Hariyali Teej falls on 27th July 2025.
However, women must adhere to certain dos and don’ts on this day, as failing to do so can invite misfortune and disrupt the martial harmony. Below is the list of specific rules that must be followed on Hariyali Teej:
Hariyali Teej 2025: Dos And Don'ts Married Women MUST Observe On This Sacred Fast
- Hariyali Teej fast is traditionally observed without food or water, known as a nirjala vrat. However, if someone has health concerns, they should observe the fast according to their physical capacity without straining their well-being.
- Consuming water, fruits, or any form of nourishment during this vrat is believed to render it incomplete. Those observing the fast are encouraged to maintain its sanctity by strictly avoiding any intake.
- One should refrain from anger, lies or negative thinking during the fast. These emotions are considered to disrupt the spiritual essence of the day and may impact the sincerity of one’s devotion.
- Holding jealousy or resentment towards anyone on this day is believed to break the vrat. Maintaining a pure heart and peaceful mind is essential for observing this sacred ritual with full devotion.

- It’s important to chant the names of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with a calm and focused mind throughout the fast. Their divine blessings are sought through sincere prayer and mental discipline.
- The Hariyali Teej fast begins at sunrise and continues until the next day’s sunrise. During this period, it’s advised to avoid all tamasic (impure or heavy) foods and habits to maintain spiritual purity.
- The fast is only considered complete after listening to the Teej Vrat Katha and performing the prescribed puja rituals. These sacred acts symbolise devotion and fulfilment of the observance.
- Solah Shringar (sixteen adornments) holds special significance for married women on this day. Completing the full adornment is symbolic of marital bliss and devotion, so it should not be left incomplete during the vrat.
