Hartalika Teej 2024: Significance
Hartalika Teej derives its name from the legend of Goddess Parvati's friend, who whisked her away to a dense forest to prevent her father from forcibly marrying her to Lord Vishnu, against her wishes. This tale of female friendship and devotion is commemorated during Hartalika Teej. In southern states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, the festival is known as Gowri Habba, a significant occasion to seek Goddess Gowri's blessings. On this day, women observe the Swarna Gowri Vratha, a sacred fast, to invoke the goddess's blessings for a harmonious and joyful married life. Through this festival, women seek to emulate Goddess Parvati's virtues of loyalty, love, and devotion, strengthening their own marital bonds and seeking divine guidance for a fulfilling life.
