Vastu Shastra has significant importance within Hinduism because it offers teachings for day-to-day actions and tasks. Vastu Shastra helps humans identify auspicious and inauspicious actions and how their actions need to be aligned suitably with the cosmos. Elders in almost every Indian household propose the idea that certain actions must be avoided after the sunset, which is mostly attributed to the fact that such acts are inauspicious. According to Vastu shastra and Hindu beliefs, certain activities after dusk are thought to disturb the goddess Lakshmi.
We have compiled a list of 6 tasks that must never be performed after sunset, even by mistake below:
Avoid Doing THESE 6 Things After Sunset As They Might Displease Mata Lakshmi And Invite Bad Luck
1. Do Not Keep Unwashed Utensils In The Kitchen
Cleanliness in the kitchen is more important to Hindus than any other room in the house. Leaving dirty dishes at night is considered to invite poverty and debt. You should clean your dishes to invite Goddess Lakshmi's blessings. Hindu beliefs suggest that if you keep a clean kitchen, then you will have prosperity and a positive environment, whereas a dirty kitchen may bring misfortune. Keeping the kitchen clean and uncluttered is believed to bring good fortune and divine blessings into the home.
2. Do Not Trim Your Hair And Nails
According to Hindu tradition, it is considered inauspicious to trim nails or hair at night. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi visits homes at night, and leaving behind the remains of trimmed hair or nails would be disrespectful towards the goddess of wealth. To avoid creating bad karma and disrespecting the goddess, it is advised to complete such personal grooming activities during the day.
3. Do Not Wash Clothes
Hindu tradition suggests that drying or washing clothes during the night will invite negative energy into your life. During the morning, wearing clothes that have soaked up negative energy overnight will pass on the negativity to your body. It is a good practice to wash and dry clothes during the daytime when the Sun is out because it is said to drain the negative energy from the clothes. The Sun's warmth destroys germs and bacteria and makes clothes clean and fresh. The practice is done under the assumption that sunlight brings purification and optimism in an individual's everyday living and health.

4. Women Must Not Wash, Comb Or Sleep With Wet Hair
In Hindu culture, it is recommended that women tie up their hair after sunset in order to keep away evil energies that are said to dominate after dusk. Sleeping with loose hair is deemed unfavourable since it is believed to expose one to these energies. The act of tying up hair is easy and effective in guarding oneself against harm. This is based on the belief that the energy and aura of an individual are weakened during nighttime, and protective measures help preserve balance and wellness in one's daily living.
5. Never Donate White Eatables Like Milk, Curd, Salt, Sugar
Donating some food items in the evening such as milk, turmeric, salt, etc., is believed to be inauspicious in the Hindu culture. People believe that such offerings result in inviting the displeasure of Mata Lakshmi, creating economic troubles along with other kinds of troubles. These things are blessed and related to prosperity, and donating them is believed to disturb the financial equilibrium of an individual. Avoiding such offerings is recommended in order to sustain harmony and positive energies to lead a stable and prosperous life filled with good luck and divine blessings.
6. Do Not Clean Your Home At Night
Early morning cleaning of the home is considered auspicious according to Vastu Shastra, bringing good luck to the household. However, evening sweeping is believed to drive Goddess Lakshmi away, causing diseases, misery and unrest. This practice avoids sweeping at night, unless unavoidable as there is no sunlight to spot dust and dirt. By following this practice, one can have a peaceful and affluent home life, inviting good fortunes and positive energies.
