Kalashtami July 2024: Kalashtami, also known as Kala Ashtami, is a significant Hindu event honouring Lord Bhairav, observed every month on the eighth day of the moon's waning phase (Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi). This auspicious day, occurring eight days after the full moon (Purnima) is deemed ideal for devotees to worship Lord Kaal Bhairav and fast in devotion to seeking His blessings and favour. The Masik Kalashtami in the month of Sawan will be observed on 28th July 2024.

Kalashtami July 2024: Significance Of Masik Kalashtami Vrat

The significance of Kalashtami is highlighted in the ancient text, Aditya Purana. This sacred day is dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav, an embodiment of Lord Shiva, revered as the 'God of Time'. Devotees of Lord Shiva worship Kaal Bhairav with great fervour, seeking his divine blessings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva transformed into Maha Kaleshwar and severed Brahma's fifth head during a dispute, leading to his worship as Kaal Bhairav. By observing Kalashtami and honouring Lord Bhairav, devotees believe they can alleviate suffering, pain, and negative energies from their lives, and receive the benevolent grace of Lord Shiva.

Kalashtami July 2024: Rituals Of This Sacred Day

On the auspicious occasion of Kalashtami, devotees of Lord Shiva undertake a series of sacred rituals and observances. Commencing before dawn, adherents perform a ritual bath, followed by a special puja to invoke the blessings and forgiveness of Lord Kaal Bhairav. Visitation to temples, offering of prayers, and performance of ancestral rituals are also integral components of this significant day. Devotees observe a rigorous fast, while some engage in an all-night vigil, listening to the revered tales of Mahakaleshwar. The observance of Kalashtami Vrat is believed to confer prosperity, happiness, and success upon the devotees. The recitation or listening of Kaal Bhairav Katha, as well as the chanting of Lord Shiva's mantras, is considered highly auspicious. Furthermore, the customary practice of offering sustenance to black dogs, the revered mount of Lord Kal Bhairav, and the provision of food to Brahmins at sacred locales such as Kashi, underscore the spiritual significance and devotion associated with Kalashtami.
