The Kanyadaan ritual has a profound significance. It has been escorting since the Vedic era and is being passed down from generation to generation. Kanyadaan is made up of the terms daan, which means donation, and kanya, which means female. Together, the two signify the offering of a daughter. The groom is considered to be Lord Vishnu's avatar, or embodiment according to Indian customs and conventions. In contrast, the maiden or bride is a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi. For the bride's family, the Kanyadaan rite therefore has religious and emotional significance. Furthermore, it is typically performed by the bride's parents, who view it as a Mahadaan. The bride experiences a significant transformation and a significant shift in her life with Kanyadaan. The Vedas and texts state that the Kanyadaan ritual is carried out by virtue of one's past and present transgressions. It also cleanses your soul from the inside out.
Kanyadaan In Hindu Marriage: Procedure Of Performing This Ritual
- One important aspect of the Kanyadaan tradition is fasting before the festival. Until Kanyadaan, the mother or any other northerly figure of the bride in the family abstains from eating or drinking. However, there have been some modifications made to the ritual. In contemporary times, people drink water up till the end of Kanyadaan.
- The Hasta Milap or Kanyadaan ritual takes place in which the groom accepts the bride's right hand from her father. The father of the bride puts her right hand over the groom. This is an appeal for him to freely and sincerely embrace his daughter as his bride. In addition, the father requests the groom's pledge to treat his daughter as an equal partner in life and all of his pursuits.

- Following this, the mother of the bride pours holy water onto the couple's palm. The way the water runs allows it to pass past their daughter and fall in the groom's palm. Ultimately, the Kanyadaan ceremony moves forward by making prayers to the sacred deities. Following the sacred water, the pair's palms are embellished with flowers, fruits, betel nuts, and other items. Pundits recite a mantra alongside it to signify the conclusion of the rite.
