Karwa Chauth 2023: Significance Of Sargi Ritual

Sargi is a significant Karwa Chauth ritual that is carried out before dawn. Women take a bath, put on red apparel, and perform 16 shringaar (16 bridal adornments) early in the morning, between 4 and 5 am. The women observing the fast make a thali, which often consists of mathri, coconut, dry fruits, sweets, and savoury dishes made by their mothers-in-law. Additionally, the mothers-in-law give jewellery and sarees as gifts to their daughters-in-law. After having the Sargi, women worship the goddess Gauri and make a commitment to fast for the entire day (nirjala) without eating or drinking.
